Profile of retired Portsmouth General District Court Judge

Judge Archie Elliott, Jr. would tell some defendants he "had a DEA light in the ceiling that could tell if they'd done any dope." Afterwards, a fellow judge claimed that Elliott threatened him and that judge "requested a bullet-resistant vest and wore it for a while." Elliott was suspended for two years, then he was "permitted" to retire after serving 27 years on the bench. Since then, he "now serves as assistant chief of the Nottoway Indian Tribe of Virginia Inc."
